SSC CGL Exam Stages

Before we start talking about the booklist, you need to know the stages of CGL exam. There are total 4 stages (Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 and Tier-4) in this exam. Out of these four stages, 1 stage (Tier-4) is a  skill test exam and Tier-3 exam is a descriptive paper. It is about writing skill (application writing, essays writing, letters, precis, etc.). And other two are non descriptive paper. And these two papers are comprise with Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and Comprehension, Reasoning & General intelligence, General Awareness, Statistics and General Studies (Finance and Economics).

Subject Wise Best Booklist for SSC CGL Exam

Quantitative Aptitude : 

Math is popularly known as quantitative aptitude or it contains with mathematics. It is one of the important papers to score a good number in this exam. There are so many books available on this topic but we recommend you to choose R.S. Aggarwal's Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations. This book is enough for any competitive exam preparation as well as it is a best math book for SSC CGL or a best quantitative aptitude book for SSC CGL. You can also follow your high school's Math books from 6th to 10th. If you are from West Bengal then we highly recommend you to choose WB board's old Math books from class 6th to 10th. It will better option than R.S. Aggarwal's book. If you read WB board's old Math books then you can use R.S. Aggarwal's book for practice purpose. 

English Language and Comprehension : 

English is another important subject for this exam. For English grammar, you can select Applied English Grammar And Composition by P.C. Das or Highlights Of English Grammar Portraits by P.K. Mukherjee and for the preparation CGL Exam, you can choose Objective General English by S.P. Bakshi or Objective General English by R.S. Aggarwal. These two books are enough for you this exam preparation also these two books are best English book for SSC CGL exam. And for practice purpose, you can follow our practice set or you can follow previous year question papers of CGL. These two books (English by S.P. Bakshi and English by R.S. Reasoning & General intelligence : 

Reasoning is popularly known as GI (General intelligence) is a important subject for all SSC exams. There are limited number of books available for this exam. So that we'll recommended you to follow practice set provided by various education institution or website, or you can follow previous year questions papers of all SSC exams. Although there are limited number of books available for reasoning but we can suggest a book for it and that is Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S. Aggarwal. Don't just rely on this book, if you want to get good marks in this subject, you have to follow other materials as well.

General Awareness

General Awareness or General Knowledge is popularly known as GK is most important subject is just not for this exam but also other exam as well. Current Affairs is also consider as GK. The best way to read GK or Current Affairs is newspaper. Newspaper is one of the main sources of GK and Current Affairs. Read daily newspaper and note down important incidents and events. Although there are no such best General Awareness book for SSC CGL, but we recommend you to read Lucent's General Knowledge book. Keep it mind that this book is just for basic knowledge and for extreme knowledge of General Awareness or Current Affairs, you have to read newspaper and magazine regularly. 

Statistics : 

Statistic paper is important for tier 2 exam. Statistic is about numerical data analysis. There are not such best book for SSC CGL statistics paper. Follow previous year questions papers and participate in various mock test, provided by various education institutions and websites. General Studies (Finance and Economics) : 

As we have earlier said that newspaper and magazine is best for General Awareness but this paper is about General Studies of Finance and Economics, so we recommend you to read economy and finance related news for this paper. If you are finding best book for finance and economics for SSC CGL, then there are a lot of books available for this and Ramesh Singh's Economics Book and Nitin Singhania's Economics Book are some of the best books among them. FAQs on SSC CGL exam

How many days is enough for SSC CGL preparation?

Since the exam is conducted in every year by  Staff Selection Commission, so it is necessary to read at least 1 year for this exam but if you are a genius then you can pass this exam or prepare for this exam acceding to your time selection. 

Can SSC CGL pass without coaching?

Yes, you can pass this exam without any coaching. As you know that nowadays fees in coaching centre in too high, so many can not afford to take or join in a coaching center, but there are a lots of education institution or education websites available who provide free competitive exam materials and also provide free guide for students like us.  

How many attempts are there in SSC CGL?

There is no limit to the attempt for CGL exam as well as other SSC exams. Although there is no limit of attempt but the age limit of general category student is 18 years to 30 years. There is some age relaxation for reserve category (SC/ST/OBC/etc) students.

Is Lucent GK sufficient for SSC CGL?

We'll say not at all. Although Lucent GK is one of the best books for general awareness but for CGL preparation you can't just rely on this book, you have book read other materials (we have mentioned it in this article) as well. 

Is there any interview in SSC CGL?

From 2016 SSC had decided to not take any kind of interview. So, the answer is "No", there is no any kind of interview in this exam. Instead of it SSC has extended the exam stages.
