1. The fourth edition of joint military exercise 'Al Najah' between India and which country has started recently?

Answer : Oman. The exercise has been started from August 1, 2022 in Bikaner at the Mahajan Field Firing Range, Rajasthan. The exercise 'Al Najah-IV' focuses on counter-terrorism, regional security and peacekeeping operations. The exercise has been participated by 60 personals or army personals (the Sultan of Oman Parachute Regiment and troops) from Oman and 18 army personals (Mechanised Infantry Battalion of the Indian Army). 

2. Who recently became the Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research?

Answer : Senior scientist Dr. Himanshu Pathak has been appointed as Director General (DG) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and as Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE). 

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was formed in 1929 and the council comes under the Ministry of Agriculture. ICAR is the largest network of agricultural research and education institutes in the world. Narendra Singh Tomar who, the Union Minister of Agriculture, is also president of ICAR. The motto of Indian Council of Agricultural Research is "Agrisearch with a human touch". 

3. Which state government recently decided to create seven new districts?

Answer : West Bengal. Recently (August 1), the state cabinet of West Bengal has approved the creation of seven new district and it has been announced by the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. It'll increase the total number of districts in WB from 23 to 30. New 7 districts will be created by dividing some existing districts such as Nadia, North 24 Pargana, South 24 Pargana, Bankura, Murshidabad

4. Chabahar Day Conference recently has started where?

Answer : Mumbai. On 21 July, 22, the Conference has been launched by the Union Shipping Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal and the Minister of State for Shipping, Shripad Naik in Maharashtra, Mumbai. And the Conference has been attended by the dignitaries from Uzbekistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. 

India and Iran signed a bilateral agreement in May 2016, where India agreed to renovate a berth at Shahid Beheshti Port ( Part of Chabahar Port). India has also agreed to reconstruct a 600-metre long container handling facility at the port and also signed a tripartite agreement between India, Iran and Afghanistan for developing the port and for making transport and transit corridor between this three countries. In 2017, India sent its 1st shipment to Afghanistan through this Chabahar Port, which was carrying wheat.

The port of Chabahar is located on the Gulf of Oman. It is located 72 km away from Gwadar port in Pakistan, was developed by China. Chabahar Port is the only Iranian port with direct access to the Indian Ocean. The Chabahar port consists of two different ports namely, Shahid Beheshti and Shahid Kalantari. It is an important pillar of India's Indo-Pacific vision to connect Eurasia (Europe + Asia) with the Indian Ocean region. 

Chabahar post is important for India to enhance connectivity with Afghanistan and Central Asian states (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan). The port opened up a permanent alternative route for trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia. It also counters Chin Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port under China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

5. Who has recently been appointed as World Bank Country Director for India?

Answer : Auguste Tano Kouame has been appointed as the Country Director for India by The World Bank. Kouame also served as the World Bank Country Director for Turkey. Junaid  Ahmed has been replaced by him. He completed five years of his term for this post. 

World Bank was formed in 1944 and the Headquarter of it is in Washington DC and the president of World Bank is now David Malpass. It is an international financial institution that provides loans and grants to the governments of poor countries for their development, in particular for developing their projects such as roads, bridge constructions, etc.

Answer : The first electric traffic signal of the world was installed on August 5, 1914 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA and hence it is observed on August 5. International Traffic Light Day highlights the benefits and importance of traffic lights. It is a day that commemorates the installation of the world's first traffic signal system.

8. Where was the 29th ASEAN Regional Forum held?

Answer : It was held in Cambodia (Kingdom of Cambodia) in the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, under the 2022 ASEAN Chairmanship of Cambodia. 

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established in August 1967 in Thailand, in the capital city, Bangkok by the signing of the ASEAN Declaration or also called Bangkok Declaration. It was established by 5 main founding members or you can say founding fathers of ASEAN, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand. 

9. Recently the military exercise 'VINBAX 2022' started between India and which country?

Answer : The 3rd edition of VINBAX 2022 exercise was started between Indian and Vietnam at Chandimandir, Haryana and it has started from August 1. It was a 20 days long army exercise between Vietnam and India. The theme of this exercise is "the recruitment and deployment of an engineer company and a medical team as part of the United Nations contingent for peacekeeping operations".

10. Who recently became the Chief Director General of PIB?

Answer : The senior Indian Information Service officer, Satyendra Prakash has been selected or appointed as the Chief Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB). Press Information Bureau was formed in 1919 and it is a nodal agency of Government of India which is controlled by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It publishes information about government plans, programs, policies, government initiatives, achievements through online platforms. 

11. How many wetlands in India have recently been included in the 'Ramsar List'?

Answer : Recently 10 more wetlands in India have been included in the 'Ramsar List'. Now India has total of 64 wetlands. And out of these 10 new wetlands, 6 are in the state of Tamil Nadu and one each in Karnataka, Goa, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh.

  2. Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary
  3. Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary
  4. Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve

Ramsar Convention is a treaty which was signed in 1971 on February 2, in the city of Ramsar, Iran. It includes those wetlands as Ramsar Sites which has the international importance. India joined in this convention in 1982 on 1st February

12. Which state's astronomical observatory has recently been included in UNESCO's important endangered heritage observatories?

Answer : The 106-year-old astronomical observatory, recently established at Langat Singh College in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district was included in UNESCO's list of endangered heritage. This observatory was established in 1916 and it becomes 1st observatory in eastern India which includes UNESCO's list of endangered heritage. 

A planetarium was also set up in the college in 1946, according to the principal of Langat Singh College, Roy said. After 1970, observatories and observatories began to decline gradually and most of the machines installed there were either lost or decommissioned. After being included in the list of UNESCO's important endangered heritage observatories, it is now hoped to revive and preserve it. 

13.  Where will IDF (International Dairy Federation) World Dairy Summit 2022 be held?

Answer : It is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 12. In this summit, India will seek to improve its milk productivity by taking suggestions and lessons from developed countries. Currently India is the largest milk producing country in the world producing more than 210 million units of milk every year, but in terms of milk production, India still lags far behind developed countries. 

International Dairy Federation (IDF) was formed in 1903 and its is in Brussels, Belgium. And it is the main source of dairy chain expertise (scientific and technical), it controls more than 75% milk production all over the world. 

 14. An exercise called 'Yudh Abhyas' will be organized between India and which country's army?

Answer : The 18th edition of "Yudh Abhyas" will be organized between Indian army and US army near the boarder of India and China, in a state of India, Uttarakhand at Auli from 14 October to 31 October. The main purpose of this exercise is to enhance cooperation, understanding and interoperability between the two courtiers army. 

15. Recently where India’s first ‘Himalayan Spice Garden’ has been established?

Answer : It has been established in Uttarakhand, Ranikhet. It was inaugurated by eminent historian Shekhar Pathak at Soni in Ranikhet on Thursday, it displays key Himalayan spices, from Kashmiri Saffron to the famous Tejpat, Wild Heeng and Timoor which are founded in the Bhairanghati area of Uttarkashi district.

Chief Conservator of Forests (Research Wing), Sanjeev Chaturvedi earlier said that the garden has been established in Ranikshe which covering an area of about 4 acres with the funding and help from the Japan, in particular Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Chaturvedi also said that it currently contains more than 30 different spices, including 8 from the Allium family (onion) which are of the Himalayan region. The main reason and objective to create garden was to create awareness and popularity about various spices of the Indian Himalayan region.

16. Who was recently elected as the 14th Vice President of India?

Answer : Jagdeep Dhankha who was the candidate of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for vice president, has been elected as the 14th Vice President. He got 528 votes and his opposite candidate, Margaret Alva got 182 votes. Before this, Mr. Dhankha was the state Governor of West Bengal. 

The vice president of India is elected indirect way, means not by public votes but by an electoral college which consisting of members (elected as well as nominated) of both Houses of Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha), and the voting process is done by using secret ballot voting system.

17. Which country recently launched a lunar mission named 'Danuri'?

Answer : Recently South Korea has launched its first lunar orbiter mission, 'Danuri' by using the space agency, SpaceX. Although South Korea has its own space agency called Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) which was established in 1989, but it is not much advance or capable to launch a heavy satellite or a big space mission. South Korea is an East-Asian country and its capital is Seoul, President is Yoon Seok-youl, the currency of South Korea is Korean Republic won and its Prime Minister is Han Duck-soo

18. India will participate in the 'Pitch Black' exercise to be held in which country?

Answer : India will participate Pitch Black exercise along with UAE (United Arab Emirates) and other members countries of QUAD, AUKUS and NATO, which is hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The exercise will be conducted from 19 August to 6 September. In this exercise, around 2, 500 army or particularly Air Force personals from over 17 countries and 100 aircraft will be participated in both Defensive Counter Air (DCA) and Offensive Counter Air (OCA) combat. 

19. Who topped the medal tally recently in 'CWG (Commonwealth Games) 2022'?

Answer : Australia topped the medal table at the Commonwealth Games 2022 with 67 gold medals, 57 silver medals and 54 bronze medals. England is second and Canada is third. And India secure 4th position on this medal tally. India won 22 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 23 bronze medals.

Commonwealth Games is a multi sports events which is conducted in every 4 years by different commonwealth Nations. CWG 2022 has been hosted by Birmingham, United Kingdom. Commonwealth Nations is group or an association of 56 countries all over the world. Generally commonwealth nations are those once upon a time who were the part of British Colony.  Generally, Commonwealth countries are those that were once part of British colonies. 

20. Scientists of which country recently prepared the world's first artificial embryo?

Answer : Israeli Scientist and Researches or particularly the scientist and researchers at the Weizmann Institute have established world's 1st “synthetic embryos”. By doing this they have bypassed the need for sperm, eggs for fertilisation. It is called artificial embryos, because it is developed without any fertilized eggs. By doing this scientist try to understand how tissues and organs form during natural embryonic development
